A large Australasian paper and packaging company needed to replace a twenty year old, single stage, 160kW compressor with a failed variable speed drive. The old compressor required a major rebuild meaning unacceptable down time and high immediate costs which were better channelled into new capital investment.
The strategic outcome was to lease two Kaishan PMV 132, 2-Stage compressors with variable speed drive which were immediately available from Secair. This kept them up and running with a higher output of controlled air power whilst retaining the old compressor as an emergency backup to cover both planned and unplanned maintenance events.
The company’s reliability Manger, stated, “Secair had the right compressors in stock including the VSD and the capability to deliver, install and commission the new systems in a short time span. Having had a long relationship with Secair and knowing they supplied world class products and professional support services, we felt comfortable with our choice. With a lifetime warranty on the airends and a five year comprehensive warranty, we are covered all the way”.
It is calculated that the Kaishan PMV’s will save around 180,000 kW hours per compressor per annum in comparison to the old machine. That equates to an exceptional return on the capital investment with a fast payback over the period of the lease. The investment in Kaishan’s energy saving compressor technology has also achieved 100% saving in maintenance requirements.
Most importantly, the new energy saving technology and VSD capability to control air output to match demand at any time and any application has greatly reduced the company’s GHG and carbon emissions through minimised electrical power consumption. “The investment in advanced compressed air technology is paramount in meeting environmental challenges through high efficiency waste recycling and energy saving strategies”.
The new compressor system was installed into a purpose-built, ventilated plant room utilising existing receiver and air treatment systems. The new compressors are more compact and much quieter than the old model. Mechanical installation, pipework and commissioning was carried out by Secair who will continue as the servicing agent also.
